AP 205 Amancio Williams: Readings of the Archive
AP205 Amancio Williams offers an in-depth exploration of the legacy of Argentine architect Amancio Williams (1913–1989), a pivotal figure in modern architecture across Latin America. Best known for the Casa sobre el Arroyo in Buenos Aires Province, one of his few realized projects, Williams’s career encompasses a wide range of designs and proposals spanning from the 1940s to the 1980s. This diverse body of work, preserved in a rich archive of drawings, photographs, correspondence, and models, was entrusted by the Williams family to the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in 2020.
This publication is the result of research by Studio Muoto, Claudia Shmidt, and Pezo von Ellrichshausen, each contributing unique perspectives grounded in architecture and architectural history. Their analyses bring forth a renewed understanding of Williams’s work, situating his architectural practice within the social, material, and political contexts of contemporary discourse.
