This retrospective of Petra Blaisse's career and her renowned studio, Inside Outside, offers a multifaceted exploration of their work spanning interior, exhibition, and landscape design across more than three decades. Departing from traditional static architecture, Inside Outside crafts environments of various scales, from expansive urban landscapes to intimate spaces defined by textile walls. The resulting creations defy easy categorization, showcasing a diverse portfolio including the Taipei Performing Arts Center, the Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Biblioteca degli Alberi in Milana sprawling park spanning hectares—and the LocHal Library in Tilburg, a repurposed factory characterized by semi-translucent curtains. Unveiling both realized and unrealized projects, the volume also delves into the studio's collaborations, notably with OMA since the late 1980s.

Beginning with insightful thematic essays, the book provides in-depth accounts of projects from 1985 to the present, complemented by personal reflections from Petra Blaisse, partners Jana Crepon and Aura Luz Melis, and team members. The studio's diverse methodologies and unique forms of expression are mirrored in the book's design, featuring a blend of production manuals, technical drawings, collage, photography, and botanical studies across nearly 900 pages. "Art Applied" offers myriad possibilities for intervention and habitation, urging readers to continuously seek fresh perspectives on the built environment.

Edited and introduced by Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen, with contributions from Penelope Curtis, Christophe Girot, Rem Koolhaas, Charlotte Matter, Fatma Al Sehlawi, Jack Self, Laurent Stalder, Helen Thomas, and Philip Ursprung.
