Cross Cultural Chairs
Cross Cultural Chairs
While human anatomy necessitates sitting, are seats designed with this diversity in mind? Have our seating habits been influenced by modern design, potentially limiting cultural expression? This project by CCC delves into the social and cultural complexities of sitting by studying chairs from eight of the world’s most populated countries. In collaboration with local design studios, CCC undertook field research to explore how chairs can embody unique cultural identities.
This initiative reexamines “chair-culture,” transforming this everyday object into a medium for discussing identity, community, and the blend of global and local influences in design. By highlighting cultural diversity in chair design, the project opens conversations about how seating reflects social values and diverse traditions.
