Kamilaroi/Bigambul artist Archie Moore is renowned for his incisive, politically charged works that engage with personal and national histories. This monograph draws on Moore’s deep research into his family, community, and archival sources to honor the sovereignty and kinship of Australia’s First Nations, spanning over 2,400 generations and 65,000 years. His ambitious genealogical project traces the shared ancestors of all humanity, emphasizing the universality of family lineage.
Through essays, the publication explores how Moore preserves Indigenous languages and addresses the ongoing impacts of colonization, including the high incarceration rates of Indigenous Australians. Central to this work is a First Nations perspective on time, where past, present, and future coexist. Commissioned by Creative Australia, this publication accompanies an exhibition curated by Ellie Buttrose, offering a profound insight into the enduring legacies of Australia’s First Nations.
