To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Virgin Suicides, director Sofia Coppola has released a captivating new photography book showcasing rare, behind-the-scenes images from her iconic debut film. Renowned British fashion photographer Corinne Day—best known for her raw, grunge-era portraits of 1990s supermodels—was personally invited by Coppola to document the set during filming.
This stunning volume, edited from Day’s original negatives, offers an intimate and previously unseen perspective on Coppola’s visionary adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’s novel. The book captures the haunting beauty of the Lisbon sisters, portrayed with the same quiet intensity that defines Coppola’s signature style—empathetic, delicate, and deeply feminine.
Corinne Day’s photographs highlight the atmosphere of the shoot, with candid moments of the young cast both in character and between takes. Rich in detail, the images feature symbolic fragments from the set: crucifixes, vintage lace bras, homecoming dresses, beauty products, and candy apples—visual cues that reflect the emotional landscape of adolescent yearning and repression.
The book includes new writing by Sofia Coppola and Jeffrey Eugenides, creating a powerful dialogue between the original novel and its cult cinematic adaptation. Designed by Anamaria Morris for Joseph Logan Design, this special edition is a must-have for fans of Sofia Coppola, Corinne Day, and lovers of cinematic storytelling.
